Limited Fiber Access Inhibits City-Wide Connectivity and Digital Opportunity
Bastrop’s existing city-wide dark fiber network ring required expanded geographic reach and fiber access capabilities to enable ubiquitous connectivity across the city’s growing footprint. It also needed to be further built out to support the new level of robust redundancy, reliability and bandwidth required to meet the demands of public libraries, vendors, residents, businesses coming to the area and more.
With numerous construction initiatives currently underway, Bastrop required a network expansion that could support residents and businesses now with the capability to expand its coverage to suit the city of tomorrow. Furthermore, the city required a fiber partner that offered local expertise, prioritized hands-on, high-touch support and an understanding of the individualized needs of Bastrop—while offering solutions that aligned with its goals.
SOLUTION:
Expanding Network Capacity
To empower the City of Bastrop as it continues on its long-term growth trajectory and deliver the bandwidth, city-wide connectivity and redundancy it required, FiberLight was chosen to add three new 1Gbps Enhanced Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) fiber circuits to the existing fiber ring. With capacity being distributed to Bastrop’s city hall, convention center, library, vendors and more, this enhancement allowed the fiber ring to offer more robust access to redundant and high-capacity connectivity that supports businesses, residents and city personnel. Furthermore, this network addition aligned with the two-strand dark fiber ring that FiberLight built in Bastrop in January 2019 for the local Economic Development Corporation, offering the city and its industrial business park enhanced scalability to meet the needs of the future.
